7 things in tel aviv (mainly foodie things)

1. best hummus: behadons hummus
tiny little place that’s easy to miss. but don’t miss it! absolutely delicious, fresh hummus.
175 dizengoff street.

2. best cafe: cafe lucia
cute neighbourhood cafe with excellent “kaffe kar” (AKA iced latte everywhere else in the world…).
18 balfour street, lev hair

3. best breakfast: five, mendeli street hotel
make sure you reserve in advance as it’s for hotel guests (mainly). highly recommended – buffet of fresh cooked israeli veg, salads, labneh, home-made breads and not to forget a range of hot things like fried eggs on tahini.
5 mendeli street

4. best israeli hipster lunch: miznon
this place is becoming somewhat legendary in tel aviv. selection of meats or veg stuffed in pitta with tahini and various other things. don’t ask what it is, just take a bit and enjoy the amazingness. you can also order a whole grilled cauliflower or sweet potato – why not?! as the founder, celebrity chef Shani has described it: “my vision is to take whole cities and translate them into one pita,” – yup, that’s exactly what it tasted like 🙂
23 ibn gvirol or 30 king george street

5. hang out like a real tel-avivi:
wander down ben tsiyon boulevard, sderot ben gurion or sderot rothschild and have a coffee at the street cafes

6. the best fro-yo: anita
neve tsedek, in the south of tel aviv, is worth a trip in itself. go see the “tachana” (old train station) and head to anita for THE best frozen yoghurt EVER. no kidding.
23 shabazi street, neve tsedek

7. more fancy dinner: shulchan
73 rothschild street

  • Homemade hummus turned out just 👌 The real deal, made from dried chickpeas not canned, and slowly boiled to release the skins. Then blended with ice. Super smooth!

  • Another day, another attempt. Nice ear developed from scoring 🐰! Very happy with the flavour and the crumb is improving, becoming more open, although something strange went on with a couple of random big air pockets in between. Bad shaping? 🤷🏻‍♀️ -
This one was: 900g organic wheat, 100g rye, 750g water, 200g levain, 20g salt. 4h bulk ferment and about 13h overnight fridge proof.
